「敬愛なるベートーヴェン」（Copying Beethoven)
新年最初の英語で音楽・音楽で英語のクラスでは「敬愛なるベートーヴェン」を取り上げることに。秋にDVDが発売されたばかりの新作だ。残念ながら日本のDVDには英語字幕が付いていない。仕方がないので、日本版を買うのを諦めアメリカから輸入。無事スクリプトを制作完了。
途中の第九の演奏シーンがとても圧巻。事前に映画を見た人の話ではその第九の初演シーンの後は付け足しみたいとかいうことだったので、期待していなかったが大フーガがテーマに使われており、ちゃんとまとまりのある話になっていた。
個人的には「不滅の恋 ベートーヴェン」の方のベートーヴェンの方が好きだが、とても下品で自己中で、しかし才能溢れるベートーヴェンをエド・ハリスが熱演していた。ベートーヴェンの３番目のコピーイスト（楽譜を写す仕事をする人）、アナ役のダイアン・クルーガーはとてもいい。
その大フーガを作曲途中のベートーヴェンのセリフ。アナが「この旋律は醜い、私には理解できない」というのに対してこの音楽を説明している。
Beethoven:She doesn't understand. It's meant to challenge your sense of beauty. I'm opening up music to the ugly, to the visceral. How else can you get to the divine except through the guts of man?
